Mike Stevenson is a resident of Warsaw, Missouri which is located in Benton County. His father currently lives in Jamesport, Missouri, his mother passed away with cancer 5 years ago. Mike’s father, a working Missourian, worked at Modine Manufacturing for over 25 years before retiring. He was a lifelong member of the United Auto Workers of America; His Dad also served in the United States Marine Corp and was deployed to Korea where he served his country during the war. Mike’s mother was a homemaker.
Mike attended public schools for all twelve years; including elementary school in St. Joseph, Missouri, middle school at Gallatin, Missouri and graduating from Tri-County High School in Jamesport, Missouri.
Mike has been married to Janice Stevenson, his high school sweet-heart, for 36 years and together they have four children; two girls and two boys. Mike’s two sons both served in the U.S. Army following high school. Kirk served with the 82nd Airborne out of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and Kevin served with the 1st Calvary Division out of Ft. Hood, Texas. His youngest son, Kevin, completed two tours of duty in Iraq with over 250 combat missions to his credit. He is currently attending college at State Fair Community College in Sedalia and is also serving in the U.S. Army Reserves. Mike’s oldest daughter has a college degree and his youngest daughter is attending State Fair Community College in Sedalia. Mike has five grandchildren ranging from eight years old to one year old.
Mike attended college at Trenton Junior College following high school graduation then transferred to Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, Missouri. He completed his Bachelors degree and Masters Degree at NWMSU in Education. He continued his education at Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg to attain his Educational Specialist degree in the area of School Superintendent. Mike worked for 30 years in the education field and retired in July of 2006. Mike is currently working to help his family realize their goals.
During his tenure as Superintendent over the past 30 years, Mike has initiated a number of important programs within the school. The A+ program, At-Risk programs for students, reading recovery programs, gifted education programs, enhanced educational opportunities through dual credit with college, summer school programs, were all initiated during Mike’s tenure as Superintendent.
The Stevenson’s are members of Warsaw Christian Church. As a devout Christian, Mike believes strongly in the sanctity of human life. In addition Mike belongs to several civic groups in and around the 116th district. These groups include: the Lions Club in Warsaw, Optimist Club, Economic Development Association, Community Betterment Association in Appleton City, and the Rotary Club of Buffalo.
Mike is running for State Representative because he is prepared to lead Missouri and the people of the 116th district forward. Mike believes strongly in Governor Nixon’s efforts to create quality jobs that will put more Missourians back to work as well as his efforts to provide our state’s children with an opportunity to receive a world-class education. And as the proud father of two U.S. services members, Mike will always fight to ensure that our state’s brave men and women in uniform are equipped for success at home and on the battlefield abroad.
